West Texas Lore and Legend

West Texas Lore & Legend is a collection of short stories, photos and poems published by Dust Devil on behalf of the non-profit Permian Basin Bookies writers group and charity. All proceeds from the project benefit the Recording Library of West Texas.

This anthology combines the works of more than two dozen authors who know the West Texas landscape well. It is a hard-cover, 203-page book with regional photos, ghost stories, tall tales, humor, true crime and children’s stories in a PG-rated collection suited for the whole family.

At the Recording Library of West Texas, volunteers read for the benefit of the blind and disabled and they are doing some fine, fine work. In an office space set up like a radio station, volunteers read for the benefit of the blind and disabled. Rarely have the donated works of so many generous blue-ribbon authors with ties to West Texas been captured between two covers.

Dust Devil Publishing donated project management, conceptual and content organization, editing, layout and design, and book storage. Get your copy at PBBookies.com. Cover price is $15.

Support for this project came in varied forms, from numerous sources. Mark McDonald, on behalf of the Bookies, thanks the following:

  •        Bergman Graphics, Aaron Bergman, chief designer, Cedar Park
  •       Johnny D. Boggs, nationally recognized Western novelist, Santa Fe, N.M.
  •        Russell Graves, photographer, northeastern Texas
  •       Lucy Griffith, photographer, Comfort, Texas
  •        Sally and Tom Stephenson, Dallas, husband-and-wife team with a national portfolio in writing and editing

The Permian Basin Bookies support writers of all skill levels and development. Together they encourage the craft of writing, and help market works. From Lubbock to Marfa at the edge of the Big Bend, from the border at El Paso to the red clay of Abilene, Bookies write in every genre. Some have literary agents and publishing contracts, while others are just getting started. The Bookies also host the annual Permian Basin Writers Workshop at Midland College, an event that brings in dozens of writing and editing professionals for intense, but casual, craft development and marketing tips.
